Using the Reading Game
- Teacher to explain that pupils will be learning to spell three tricky words. Ensure that each pupil has a whiteboard and pen, or, paper and pencil. Teacher to show class flashcard of one of the lesson’s tricky words. Ask the pupils to try and write the word given, e.g. come.

Teacher to explain that Zara the wildebeest loves space, she loves space so much she even dreams about it. Zara is dreaming today about finding and learning tricky words hidden in space. Explain to the class that they are going to help Zara find the tricky words and then help her learn them.
- Teacher to click the start button and then select the hard option. Teacher to demonstrate how to use the reading game software by touching the interactive whiteboard screen wherever Space Zara needs to fly to. Watch Space Zara ignite her jet-pac and fly to the selected position. Teacher to demo using the space map for finding the tricky word challenges - Space Zara appears as the cross-hairs on the map.
- Teacher to model completing a tricky word challenge, both dragging the jumbled letters and typing the tricky word.
- Teacher to then select individual pupils to come to the interactive whiteboard to play the reading game. Choose a different pupil for each challenge and encourage whole class to spell each word as it’s completed.
- Once game has been played, play again but using different pupils to come to the interactive whiteboard.
- PLENARY: Teacher to tell pupils that they are now going to write each word as the teacher gets to it in the game using their individual whiteboard / paper and pencils.
